“I know how robots think!”

Learning to think like a programmer is one of the most important skills a child growing up in today's world can acquire. By learning to code with robots, EDRO Robocode 101 workshops make this experience fun, effective and hands on.

In the Robocode 101 for Little Ones Workshop we will introduce children in Grades 1 to 3 to the exciting world of code over the course of a single jam packed morning or afternoon. The workshop is problem-based, guiding participants to make their own discoveries as they solve up to 24 different problems with their robots.

All coding is done, first by arranging magnetic code tiles on a whiteboard and then, by loading our code onto the robots via a remote control. This unique approach allows children start tackling problems like a real computer scientist

The Robocode 102 for Little Ones Workshop will continue from the previous module and introduce concepts like coding constraints with an increased focus on geometry and maths. The learners will have to guide the robot to draw their challenges, making this a very visually expressive workshop.

The workshop is team oriented and problem-based, guiding participants to make their own discoveries as they solve up to 24 different problems with their robots. The Robocode 103 for Little Ones Workshop is here! Two new coding concepts are introduced: Loops and Functions!

Learners are guided to identify patterns or repeats and how to use loops in coding to make more efficient algorithms. Learners are introduced to functions, a key coding concept and must now use functions and loops to solve intricate coding challenges.

This unique approach allows children start tackling problems like a real computer scientist without touching a computer!

RoboCode for Juniors (Gr 4 - 6)

“See it move… Watch it go! Look, it’s drawing a spiral now... And I coded it to do that!”

RoboCode 101 for Juniors introduces children to the world of coding robots. This workshop is hands-on, practical and, most of all, fun! We will spend our time playing games, solving problems through the use of GUI coding, and learning some very important programming concepts along the way.

In the Robocode 101 for Juniors Workshop we will introduce participants to the exciting world of code over the course of two jam packed days. The workshop is problem-based, guiding participants to make their own discoveries as they solve up to 50 different problems with their robots.

All coding is done in an easy to use, drag-and-drop interface making this a perfect course for those with no coding experience. However, for those with a more technical bend, we have some special "tough cookie" problems to test their metal!

RoboCode 101 was an important step in learning the basics of coding. RoboCode - Module 2 builds on this solid base to take you to the next level fo your coding journey.

The focus of this RoboCode Module 2 is on exploring the concept of choice in code and robotics. How can digital systems make choices? What advanced behaviour can we programme when our robots can make choices? We will explore the concept of choice through problems involving the use of our robot's sensors. We will solve problems that require our robot to navigate mazes, follow torch-light and sense different colour surfaces.

The workshop is problem-based, guiding participants to make their own discoveries as they solve up to 30 different problems with their robots. All coding is done in an easy to use, drag-and-drop interface making this a perfect course for those with no coding experience with aside from RoboCode 101.

  • Times: 9:00 to 16:00 (Full day with breaks in between)

RoboCode 102 was an important step in learning the basics of coding. RoboCode - Module 3 builds on this solid base to take you to the next level fo your coding journey.

In the third module, participants add two new programming tools to their toolbox: variables and functions. Using these two foundational concepts, learners get to work creating intricate and interesting patterns and solving more complex problems. An emphasis is placed on introducing pupils to variables and functions in a concrete manner, thereby ensuring that these two building blocks are firmly established. Coding is done in a new platform that is a combination of drag-and-drop and line- based coding bringing learners closer and making them comfortable with the idea of line-written code.

The workshop is problem-based, guiding participants to make their own discoveries as they solve up to 30 different problems with their robots.

In the Robocode 101 for High Schoolers Workshop we will introduce participants to the exciting world of code over the course of two jam packed days. The workshop is problem-based, guiding participants to make their own discoveries as they solve up to 50 different problems with their robots. All concepts are explained simply, in a well-structured, step-by-step manner making this workshop perfect for those with no coding experience. However, as we are doing all our coding in a 'text-based', 'command-line' level language called C, there will be ample scope to push the boundaries and tackle some very tough challenges!
